The worst that can happen is adventures!

Sometimes this is a travel blog. Sometimes it is a feminist blog. But it's mostly just a random collection of some random person's thoughts and musings and other blog cliches.

Oh hey there, tumblr. Almost forgot you existed.

Almost a year after graduating from college (holy crap, has it seriously been almost a year?!), I feel confident in saying that being a real adult in the real world is both exciting and terrifying. Mhmm.

Updating stuff is exhausting. It doesn’t help when you’re exhausted from traveling and your mom is super paranoid* and thinks that an earthquake in New Zealand could have possibly killed you in Brisbane (they’re at least 1,000 miles apart I’m sure).

This is my second day in Sydney, and so far it’s been very nice. I thought I was going to hate Sydney, but I actually kind of love it here. It reminds me of a beachier Manhattan (which everyone knows I love). When I saw the Opera House I pretty much freaked out. It’s amazing to see it in person, even though it’s actually quite dirty and small.

I’m staying in a hostel in Sydney, in a 10-bed room (crowded but cheap). Most of the people in the room are British, so they’re good fun. I’ve been spending a good deal of time with the three British girls (two are travelling together, one is by herself like me). The boys in the room are a real laugh.

My last couple days in Melbourne were great, and I’d really like to go back. Since I’ve extended my trip, I’ll definitely have the opportunity to. The St. Kilda Festival was great, and I met some fun British girls there too. (I seem to be meeting a lot of Brits, ha.) St. Kilda is a suburb of Melbourne and is really just like Santa Cruz, so of course I love it.

I need to figure out my time in Sydney a bit, because I really don’t have a plan.

This has been a rather interesting weekend.

Friday night was crazy and awesome.

Saturday… well, Saturday was a bit stressful. I had to change CS hosts because I was not in a good situation. I was going to just stay in a hostel, but turns out every hostel was booked. That’s right: every. single. one. So, after several stressful hours, where my base was in the food court of a mall, I found much better CS accommodations. My current host, Matt, just might be the coolest guy ever.

Today I’m going to the St. Kilda Festival. Should be fun.

Tomorrow, off to Sydney!

Today I was planning on going to the Queen Victoria Market and Royal Botanical Gardens… but it’s raining. LAME. I guess that means I have time to catch up on correspondence and what not, right?

Yesterday I went for a bike ride along the Yarra River. Not too exciting, but it felt nice. I also had the best veggie fried rice of my life in the CBD and went to this hippie-commune-type restaurant in one of the suburbs for dinner with my new CouchSurfing host, Ian. It was really cool, because all the food is vegetarian and made by volunteers. The best part: you pay what you think the food is worth. Wonderful!

Thinking about it, I have decided that the rain may be a good thing for now. My legs could probably use a rest.

I took a very long day trip along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria (the state Melbourne is in) yesterday and OH. MY. GOD. The Southern Ocean is too fucking beautiful. The Road reminds me a lot of Highway 1 in California: they’re both two-lane highways along their respective coasts and mostly just pass through small beach towns. During this trip I saw koalas and kangaroos and kookaburras and parrots. In the fucking wild. Also went through a temperate rain forest. Gooorgeousss.
